Split System Air Conditioners | A Solid Solution

There’s a lot to love about split system air conditioners. Let’s face it, not much can beat Queensland summers for good old fashioned outdoor family fun. But when it’s time to head indoors and beat the heat, everybody loves a well-cooled home to walk in to. It’s no secret that central ducted air conditioning can be an expensive option and other types such as window-mounted aircon units are not only bulky but very noisy as well.
A great solution is to install a split system air conditioning system. Split system air conditioners are designed to be aesthetically pleasing and flow with the design of your home. Also, split system air conditioners are so much quieter than a window-mounted air con unit, while at the same time, far more cost-effective than a central air system.

What is a Split Air Conditioner System?
Split System Air Conditioners are made up of two separate units. An outdoor unit and also an indoor unit. The indoor unit is the part that you see mounted on the inside of your home. It’s the machine that delivers the cool air through its vent and is the overall control mechanism for the whole system.
When you select a function on your remote control, such as the “on” function, the interior head unit relays that message to the outdoor unit, and the outdoor unit responds accordingly. The indoor unit has a cooling coil, a nice long blower and the all-important air filter.
The outdoor unit on a split system air conditioner is the ‘engine’ for the whole thing. It’s generally mounted on an exterior wall or even placed on the ground outside. It holds the compressor, the condenser coil, expansion tubing or capillary tubing.
How Do Split Air Conditioners Differ From Other A/C Units?
Split system air conditioner installations are so appealing largely due to the fact that the installation process is far more simple than a ducted air conditioner install. Split system air conditioners don’t need any ducting work at all. Instead, outdoor units are connected to the indoor units via a neat set of wiring and piping.
Usually, split systems are employed instead of ducting because you only want to air condition a certain portion of your house i.e. a bedroom or living area. For a lot less money you can escape the elements with a split ac system in one heavenly area of your house.

There are two big advantages here. the first is to your back pocket. Split system air conditioning is cheaper to install. The second big advantage is environmental. All the ducting that is required for a lot of other traditional air conditioning units raise energy wastage. It’s all to do with the heat exchange in the air duct system itself. Because split system air conditioners transfer air so efficiently via tubing, there is very little room for energy loss or temperature interference.
Benefits of Split Air Conditioning Systems
Apart from the cost savings on installation, split system air conditioners also deliver ongoing savings from a reduced running cost. Another big bonus is the noise factor. Or rather, the lack of. Split system air conditioners run very quietly. Most of the noise is heard from the exterior unit, which you can really only hear when you’re outside and near the unit.
Compare this to a window-mounted air conditioner unit. If you’ve ever slept in a room with one of these units, you might be familiar with the loud purr of the motor, humming away all night long. Compare this to the sound of a sleek interior head unit, where you simply hear the sound of airflow. Just a huge difference.
This is the beauty of a split system. Due to the compressor and condenser fan being located outside, all the noise is kept away. So you and your family can enjoy cool summer nights, without the racket.
Multi-Split Systems
A Multi-Split Air Conditioner System is simply an extension to a typical split system air conditioner. It means that there are multiple indoor head units connected to a single exterior unit. So you can easily cool multiple rooms or parts of your home with only one exterior aircon unit. This makes it much easier to maintain your perfect climate throughout your home.
There’s no getting around the fact that a split system air conditioner installation or a multi-split air conditioner system is more expensive for the installation than the old “window rattler”. However, it will prove to be so much more cost-effective in the long term. Split systems are far more energy-efficient than that of a window-mounted air conditioner.
Compared to window-mounted air conditioners, split systems have proven to completely dominate in terms of energy efficiency and longevity. So your back pocket will thank you for the investment in the long run.
